Reiki for Animals and SARA

Reiki is the life force that animates the Universe. It also refers to a Japanese system of energy healing created by Mikao Usui in the early 20th Century that facilitates spiritual development and combines meditation and mindfulness practices to restore us and our animals to harmony and balance.

Animal Reiki practitioners use intention, focus and meditation to create a vibrational space to support an animal’s self-healing process. They do not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe, or perform medical treatments. Nor do they manipulate energy to affect the outcome. Reiki supplements the practice of veterinary medicine.

I am studying the Let Animals Lead(R) method of animal Reiki developed by Kathleen Prasad of Animal Reiki Source(R). Let Animals Lead(R) practitioners let animals control the treatment process. During a session, the practitioner offers Reiki by meditating with the animal, allowing the animal to move freely about and approach for hands-on treatment only if he or she wishes to do so. The practitioner usually positions him- or herself several feet away.

The Shelter Animal Reiki Association (“SARA”) is a not for profit corporation that provides volunteer Reiki to shelter and sanctuary animals and educates the public about the Let Animals Lead(R) approach to Reiki healing. It especially helps shelter animals regain their trust in humans by calming them and making them more receptive to social interaction. Happy shelter animals are more likely to get adopted.

SARA is an organization that I am proud to associate with. I believe deeply in its mission. If you would like to learn more about it, or animal Reiki in general, please feel free to get in touch using the contact page on this site.
